EU response to Navalny's poisoning could be stop of "Nord Stream 2"

Germany and France must stop acting alone in their relations with the Russian Federation, the head of the Bundestag's foreign policy committee from the Christian Democratic Party, Norbert Röttgen, said in an interview with the Rheinische Post published on Saturday 5 September, DW reports.

Commenting on the discussion about possible sanctions against the Russian Federation after the poisoning of the Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny, the MP from the Christian Democratic Union said that a single European strategy towards Russia could emerge only if Germany and France abandon their sole efforts in this direction.

In particular, the politician from the party of Chancellor Angela Merkel believes that France should no longer rely on a bilateral strategic partnership with Russia, and Germany, which previously approved the project for the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, despite, as Röttgen notes, many European partners, must abandon it.
