Raul Khadjimba leaves the post of President of Abkhazia. This was announced by the vice-president of the republic Aslan Bartsits on Sunday, January 12.

According to TASS, earlier Khajimba’s statement to the opposition was read out by ex-Prime Minister Sergei Shamba. “I inform you that I am resigning the powers of the president in the name of maintaining stability in the country,” the document says.

The information was confirmed by Khadjimba to Interfax. When asked if he would run in the next presidential election, he replied: "Life will show."

Earlier, on January 9, an opposition rally was held in Sukhum that disagreed with the results of the presidential election in the country. Initially, the participants had to gather at the courthouse, but in the end they went to the administration building. Later, the protesters broke down the door in the building of the presidential administration, and about 200 people went inside, after which they moved to the part of the building where the parliament is located. All of them demanded the resignation of Raul Khajimba.
