Circassian politician Musa Shanibov passed away in age 84

The Circassian politician, scientist, president of the Confederation of the Nations of the Caucasus Musa (Yora) Shanibov passed away in age of 84.

Yuri (Musa) Yunusovich Shanibov was born on December 29, 1936 in Kabardino-Balkaria.

Graduate of the Faculty of Law, Rostov State University, Ph.D. He was an assistant professor of political science at the University of Kabardino-Balkaria. He served as second secretary of the Central Committee of the Komsomol of Kabardino-Balkaria. He headed the laboratory for inter-religious and interethnic conflicts.

In August 1989 he headed the Association of Mountain Peoples of the Caucasus. In November 1991, he became president of the Confederation of the Nations of the Caucasus.

In 1992 - First Deputy Chairman of the Congress of the Kabardian People. In September of that year, he was arrested for inciting ethnic hatred. The arrest caused riots in Kabardino-Balkaria. October 1 was released from custody.

Musa Shanibov is the author of more than 50 scientific publications, 11 monographs, including: “Victory of Unity: Political Analysis of Conflict Situations in the Caucasus” (1994; published in Russia, Egypt, Turkey), “Social Problems of the Labor Collective: Research, Experimentation, and Planning Forecasting” (1978), “Innovative management and self-management of sociological processes in extreme conditions” (2000) and others.

In 2006, Musa Shanibov was among those who signed the appeal to the European Parliament to recognize the Circassian genocide.
