Saakashvili goes on hunger strike after his arrest

The ex-president of the country, Mikheil Saakashvili, detained in Georgia, is on a hunger strike, ombudsman Nino Lomjaria said after visiting him in prison,- IA Ria news reports.

She stressed that the former head of state does not agree with the accusations and considers himself a political prisoner.

"Saakashvili said that he was detained today in a residential apartment, he did not offer resistance and, therefore, the police did not use force. During the arrest he was alone, he himself opened the door to the police," the ombudsman added.

She also clarified that the detainee, as a citizen of Ukraine, demanded a meeting with the consul.
