Circassian Wrestler Bilal Makhov recognized as Olympic champion

At a regular meeting on November 12, members of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee officially approved the three-time world champion in freestyle wrestling Bilal Makhov as the winner of the 2012 Olympic Games, the press service of the Russian Wrestling Federation said on Monday,- RIA Kabardino-Balkaria reports.

“This is the result of the joint work of our specialists, the Russian Olympic Committee and the United Wrestling World. The process lasted a year, there were many questions, many consultations, and in the current situation the decision on two gold medals became the only correct one. I would also like to note the impartial position of the International Olympic Committee and all the institutions that were directly involved in this,” the President of the FSBR Mikhail Mamiashvili said, commenting on the IOC's decision.

In 2012 in London, Bilal Makhov became the bronze medalist of the Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling in the weight category up to 120 kg. But, the results of the winner and silver medalist of the Games were canceled due to illegal drugs found in the athletes' doping samples.

After long discussions, an unprecedented decision was made - to approve the status of two gold medals in this weight category and award them to the athletes who took third places in London - Circassian Bilal Makhov and Iranian Komeil Gasemi.
