Record In Germany: inflation reaches over five percent

Market in Berlin

For the first time in almost 30 years, inflation in Germany has exceeded the 5%. In November 2021, consumer prices rose 5.2 percent from the same month last year, DW reports, relying the preliminary data from the Federal Statistical Office which released on Monday, November 29.

This is the highest figure in the past 29 years - since June 1992. Back in October this year, the growth in consumer prices was 4.5 percent in annual terms, in September - 4.1 percent.

The acceleration in inflation is largely due to the continuing rise in energy prices - by 22.1 percent compared to November 2020.
