The worst drought in Europe in 500 years, the European Commission says

The current drought in Europe, according to preliminary estimates, is the strongest in the last 500 years, a representative of the press service of the European Commission told reporters.

This summer, many countries in Europe are facing unprecedented heat and drought. In the main water arteries - the Rhine, Elbe, Danube, Po - the water level dropped catastrophically. This negatively affects the situation in the energy sector and the logistics of cargo delivery by river transport.

The potato crop is dying, there is a crop failure of corn, wheat, animal feed, fruits, grapes, olives. Many farms were on the verge of ruin. Also, due to the lack of water, the production of milk and meat is disrupted. Forest fires often occur, which have already destroyed almost 700,000 hectares of farmland.
