On the unity of the Circassian (Adyghe) people

 


Resolution of the I All-Adyghe Congress

Based on the recommendations of the scientific-practical forum "We are Adyghes Circassians", stating that the Circassians are a single people - with a single self-name; - with a single history; - with a single culture; - with a single mental warehouse; - with a single historical territory and striving to overcome the further disunity of the people, the first all-Adyghe congress decides:

1. Recognize the ethnic self-name "Adyghe" and the ethnic name (exoethnonym) "Circassian" common to all Adyghes living in the Russian Federation and abroad.

2. To propose to the Supreme Soviets of Kabardino-Balkaria, Adygea and Karachay-Circassia, before September 1, 1992, in all state acts, questionnaires, identity cards, birth certificates, passports and other documents to establish a single official name for all Adyghes:
a) in the native language - "Adyghe" (in Russian transcription "Adygha");
6) in Russian and other languages ​​of the world - "Circassian".

  3. Recognize the existence of two literary variants of a single Adyghe language:
a) Upper Circassian (Kabardian);
b) Lower Circassian (Kyakh).

4. The state bodies of Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Circassia, Adygea to make decisions on the elimination of Russian-language suffixes "ov", "ev", "in" in Adyghe (Circassian) surnames, discrepancies in fixing surnames, taking into account the norms of their pronunciation in the native language.

5. Propose to the relevant authorities to make the same changes for the Circassians living outside their national-state formations.

6. To impose control over the execution of this Decree on the All-Adyghe Coordinating Council.
