Trump Sends Two Nuclear Submarines Close to Russia After Medvedev's Remarks

US President Donald Trump issued a rare threat of nuclear escalation on Friday, saying he had ordered the deployment of two strategic nuclear submarines near Russia in response to what he called aggressive comments by Dmitry Medvedev, the country's former president and current deputy chairman of the Security Council.

"I have ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines in the appropriate areas, in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than that. Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those cases. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Addressing the matter later with reporters, he said the move was an attempt to be "prepared."

"He talked about nuclear," Trump said. "When we talk about nuclear, we need to be ready, and we are completely ready."
