Statement

I, Khakuasheva Madina Andreevna, Doctor of Philology, Leading Researcher at the Institute for Humanitarian Research of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBSC RAS), have to turn to you with a request to protect my rights. On the morning of November 11 (2022), employees of the FSB and the Center E came to me without warning. For several hours, a search was carried out in the apartment, two personal computers (my and my husband's), telephone, documents, books, texts, records, notes, etc. were seized.
The same search was carried out in my office at the Institute for Humanitarian Research (IGI KBSC RAS) with the seizure of books, records and documents.

Copies of the inventory of the seizure and the paper with which I got acquainted (unfortunately, I did not remember its contents) were not left to me.

At the same time, searches were carried out in the offices of Aloev T.Kh., Alkhasova S.M., Taziev R.Kh. It also became known to me that shortly before these events, Mirzoev A.S. was repeatedly summoned to the prosecutor's office.

Already in the late evening of November 11, I was taken to Center E and an interrogation protocol was drawn up.

A few days later, I turned to one of the representatives of the FSB with a request to copy the file of my planned work (at present, annual reports are being processed at KBIGI). He promised to call back, but never did.

I have a huge archive of documents, electronic versions of my books, articles, personal notes, etc., left on my computer.

Before that, dirty slanderous articles appeared on social networks under the pseudonyms Ruslan Ibragimov and the Public Decrier, directed against me and several public figures of Kabardino-Balkaria. I did not respond to them because of their complete absurdity and provocativeness. Moreover, I only use whatsapp (registered, but never used social networks).

I asked the FSB officers if they ordered these articles, but they resolutely denied such an order. When they asked why they did it, I replied: "To discredit the objectionable."

In 2009, among other authors, I was invited to the 70th anniversary of the literary magazine "Friendship of Peoples", which took place in Moscow. It was officially announced at the forum that all North Caucasian languages, including Circassian, were declared extinct (dying) according to the UNESCO classification. Since then, I have been doing my best to preserve my native language along with other language activists. I did everything in my power, as it meets my professional interests and personal convictions. In my work, my colleagues and I have never gone beyond the law. We cited facts and offered solutions, nothing more.

But never in all 14 years of my public activity, not a single project proposed by us was implemented.

That is why for the last three years I have not published anything, did not participate in public affairs, realizing that it is useless.

The operatives asked about some events 5-10 years ago that I did not remember well. In particular, representatives of the authorities were very interested in my stay at the Circassian Cultural Center of Georgia, in which I was a guest sometime in 2015. This caused me some bewilderment: after all, the Circassian Center has never been listed as a “closed facility”. This is about the same as making claims against Russians because they visited the Russian Language Center, which also exists in Tbilisi. In 2018, I was invited to an international scientific conference, but Georgian border guards did not let me through at the border, I had to return to Nalchik (a copy of the document on the ban on entry into Georgia is attached). Later I found out that this happened because I had an official trip to Abkhazia (the anniversary of the writer B. Shinkuba). However, this circumstance did not reduce the interest of the operatives in my stay in Georgia.

What is happening in our republic?

Instead of listening to specialists who work seriously in their fields, experienced public figures who help the state free of charge in order to rehabilitate their native languages in deep crisis, national literatures and cultures, these very specialists and public figures are ignored at best, and now they are openly discredited, repressed and persecuted. It is precisely such actions that should be regarded as a direct provocation of extremism and destabilization of the social situation.

I earnestly ask you to protect my rights from this complete arbitrariness. I hope for your assistance in returning all the media containing my works and recordings.

Khakuasheva M.A.
