Circassian activist Martin Kochasko released from house arrest

On August 23, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria decided to release Circassian activist Martin Kochasko from the house arrest. He was arrested on July 7 on charges of drug possession and spent a short period in prison, but following the public pressure he was then released to house arrest.

Circassian activists say Kochasko was arrested because his activities on the Circassian national issues and the charges against him have no basis.

Two months ago in Moscow, a Russian journalist was arrested on drug charges but following support demonstrations for him, he was released.
