January 5, 2022, the Jordanian Government announced on Twitter the appointment of Adel Al-Sharkas as Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan to replace Ziad Fariz, Al-Ain agency reports.
According to the website of the Central Bank, Sharkas was deputy governor of the bank.
On behalf of the Government, the Jordanian Prime Minister, Bishr Al-Khasawneh, expressed his thanks and gratitude to Fariz for the great efforts he made during his service, his effective contribution to consolidating the principle of monetary stability, and his efficient management of the Central Bank in light of delicate economic conditions and financial and economic reforms that require the highest levels of responsibility.
Who is Adel Al-Sharkas?
Born in 1966, Adel Sharkas held several positions in the Central Bank of Jordan, where he began his career as an economic researcher in the Research Department in February 1991, then moved to the United States of America and obtained a doctorate in 2002, and in the same year he was appointed as an assistant in the Finance Department at Alfred University in New York State and was later promoted to associate professor at the same university in 2006.
He returned to work at the Central Bank of Jordan in 2006, and served as Head of the Monetary Affairs Department in the Research Department, and in 2009 he was promoted as Deputy Director of the Research Department and then as Executive Director of the Department in late 2011.
Al-Sharkas obtained a doctorate in financial economics from New Orleans University - USA, a master's degree in applied statistics and financial economics from Yarmouk University - Jordan, and a bachelor's degree in applied statistics from the same university.
