On the night of March 21-22, 2023, the new year begins according to the Circassian (Adyghe) calendar. It has an astronomical justification and is associated with the vernal equinox - "Ghere chire shizekhech", when the length of the day is equal to the length of the night. From this moment on, the day begins to add, marking the new cycle of development of nature - the new year.
In ancient times, the beginning of the new year was observed by the appearance of the constellation of many stars in the sky, as well as by observing the point of sunrise. Special megalithic buildings were built for this purpose.
On March 22, the first day of the new year begins with a prayer for prosperity in the coming year. After that, the family members sit down for a festive New Year's meal.
