Return lost items to their owners
If anyone in the village found any lost item within the village then he would immediately inform the neighbors and friends about it and thus within a short time the lost item would be returned to its owner. If someone had found any lost item property at a great distance outside the village then he would have brought the item to a meeting place that was for all the residents of the villages in the area. This place was a kind of meeting place or trade or inter-rural meetings. And in this place he would hang the lost item in one of the trees that are there and would continue on its way. The one who lost would come to this place and would take his item.
The guest house
Every Circassian living in Circassia would build two houses, one house for his family and a second house for guests. Guests or passers-by who entered the village could rest at the guest house without asking permission to rest or sleep there. The door of the guest house is open all the time. Once the guest entered the guest house then the landlord had to bring the guest food, water and also out of politeness was to ask the guest about his name or last name or how long he will be in the guest house or where he is headed.
Unanimous decision (article)
Every Circassian village had a council. Every few villages had a council. The dozens of villages that made up a particular geographical area had a council. The whole nation also had a council which discusses more of major matters. In all these councils the principle was a unanimous decision. Its means that any discussion of any problem should have ended in a unanimous decision. It was forbidden to end a hearing without reaching a unanimous decision. Discussions about difficult issues were freckled sometimes for days and rarely for weeks. This was the main principle in the Circassian system of government. If we take for example democratic societies then the main principle in the system of government is the decision of the majority is decisive. And of course in a dictatorship there is no unanimous decision and no majority decision but a decision of a single or a small group of people.
The three things we presented here existed in the state of Circassia in North Caucasus until the middle of the 19th century. Circassia ceased to exist in 1864 after 101 years (1763-1864) of war imposed on it by the Russian Empire. On May 21, 1864 the Russian Empire declared the conquest of Circassia and the end of the Russian-Caucasian War. At the end of the war, about 90 percent of the Circassians were expelled from their homeland into the Ottoman Empire. And, so, the development and progress of the Circassians was halted and even lost a considerable part of their heritage which they held for thousands of years.
