Circassian wrestler Zaur Tlebzu won a silver medal at the Asian and Oceanian Championships

 


A student of the Maikop State Humanitarian and Technical College of the Adyghe State University (Republic of Adygea) Zaur Tlebzu won a silver medal at the Asian and Oceanian Sambo Championships, representing Jordan, the athlete's coach Salim Basto wrote on Instagram.

The competitions were held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) from April 14 to 18. 25 countries took part in them, 28 sets of medals were played out in all age groups.

Zaur Tlebzu competed in the weight category up to 79 kg, where he took second place based on the results of the fights and received the right to participate in the World Junior Championships, which will be held in October in Indonesia.

As the prize-winner's coach specified, this is the first world-class success in Zaur's sports career and, according to the Jordan Sambo Federation, the country's first medal in the history of this sport.

Zaur Tlebzu was born in Jordan, and in 2015 he and his family moved to his historical homeland in Adygea. Since then, he has been training in Maykop at the SDYUSHOR for judo wrestling named after Ya.K. Koblev, and his permanent coach is Salim Basto.

His main training focus is judo, but the young wrestler is also capable of performing in sambo. The offer to compete for the Jordanian national team came from the Sambo Federation of this country and was supported by the local Circassian (Adyghe) diaspora.
