The European Union intends to create a Maritime Security Center in the Black Sea region. This is one of the points of the new "Black Sea Strategy" presented by the EU Foreign Service and the European Commission on Wednesday, May 28, in Brussels.
"With Russia violating airspace, attacking ports and shipping routes, and mining the sea, enhancing security in the region is at the heart of this work," said EU Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas, presenting the new strategy.
The Maritime Security Center will be engaged in enhancing "situational awareness and information sharing in the Black Sea, real-time monitoring from space on the seabed, and early warning of potential threats and malicious activity," the text of the strategic document says.
Where exactly this center will be located and which countries will participate in it is still unknown, as well as what budget will be allocated for it and by whom.
