Donald Trump did not extend the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty

The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty between the United States and Russia expired on February 5 and was not extended.

US President Donald Trump opposed extending the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty between the United States and Russia, proposing the development of an alternative agreement. The document, signed in 2010 by Presidents Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev, regulated the number of deployed strategic nuclear weapons between the two countries.

"Instead of extending it, our nuclear experts should develop a new, improved, and modernized Treaty that will be in force for many years to come," the American president emphasized.
