A meeting between the head of Adygea, Murat Kumpilov, and the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Krasnodar, Emir Ozbay, who was in the republic on an introductory visit, took place at the Government House of Adygea. The parties discussed prospects for strengthening regional relations and cooperation in the context of strengthening Russian-Turkish relations in the economic, cultural, and other areas,- according to the press service of the head of Adygea.
Emir Ozbay was appointed to this position on November 21, 2025.
Turkish Trade Representative Muhammet Kulfetoglu and Assistant to the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Krasnodar, Sevil Sheykhova, also arrived in Adygea. Bella Khakunova, Assistant to the Head of the Republic for Foreign Relations and Investment Policy, Igor Terziyan, Advisor to the Russian Foreign Ministry Representative in Krasnodar, and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, participated in the talks. Artur Chich, Acting Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the region; Marat Gish, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic; Askarbiy Kardanov, Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Adygea and Krasnodar Krai; and Susanna Tlekhatuk, Vice-Rector of Adygea State University.
"Close, comprehensive ties have been established between Russia and Turkey. This is primarily due to our leaders, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The high level and friendly interaction between our presidents facilitates the expansion of contacts at the regional level. We value the friendship that has linked Adygea and Turkey for many years. The fact that the largest Adyghe diaspora lives in the Republic of Turkey, which makes a positive contribution to strengthening the Russian-Turkish partnership, adds a special character to our relations," said Murat Kumpilov.
The head of Adygea expressed readiness to continue the region's cooperation with Turkey in economic, cultural, humanitarian, and other areas. Cooperation in education and science has been established; Russian and Circassian language training programs are being jointly implemented for the benefit of the diaspora, including at Turkish universities. Cooperation is also deepening through sister city partnerships. Maykop is actively developing sister city relationships with Gaziantep and the Çankaya district of Ankara, while the Takhtamukaysky district is developing a sister city relationship with the Turkish city of İnegül. The republic's leading ensembles, Nalmes and Islamey, are well known in Turkey. Various Adygea performing groups participate in international cultural events held in Turkey.
During the dialogue, Murat Kumpilov discussed Adygea's potential and the development of foreign trade relations, where Turkey is one of the republic's main partners. The region places great emphasis on expanding Adygea's producers' access to the Turkish market. Various promising areas of cooperation are being explored. For example, a large industrial zone has been established in Adygea, offering preferential working conditions for residents. The head of the Republic of Adygea emphasized that the republic has carefully studied the experience of similar industrial zones in Turkey and China. Furthermore, Adygea is ready to implement joint projects in agriculture and manufacturing. Tourism has great potential for growth. The experience of Turkish investors in developing world-class resorts will also be useful here.
"I emphasize that the republic is open to constructive cooperation. I am confident that today's meeting will provide impetus for the development of ties between Adygea and Turkey and will contribute to the further strengthening of Russian-Turkish relations," noted Murat Kumpilov.
The Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Krasnodar expressed words of support in connection with the recent enemy attack in Novaya Adygea. Emir Özbay also conveyed greetings on behalf of the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Moscow, Tanju Bilgic.
