The Green Party, led by politician of Circassian descent Cem Özdemir (@cem.oezdemir), took first place in the elections to the parliament of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg in Germany, according to Circassian Media (@circassian_media_).
Özdemir was born in Germany to Circassian parents from Turkey and has repeatedly emphasized his Circassian heritage.
He has served in the Bundestag and the European Parliament over the years, and since 2021 has served as Germany's Minister of Food and Agriculture.
Formally, the state's prime minister is elected by parliament after the formation of a coalition, but the victory of the Greens makes Özdemir one of the leading contenders for the post.
Baden-Württemberg is one of the largest and most economically developed regions in Germany, with its capital in Stuttgart.
