NATO fighter jets shot down a drone over Latvia for the first time

NATO fighter jets shot down a drone that had entered Latvian airspace. The Baltic state's National Armed Forces reported this on their X microblog on Monday, June 8. According to the text of the message, the operation was carried out jointly with France.

"At least one UAV entered Latvian airspace from Russia," a Latvian Armed Forces spokesperson told Reuters. Shortly before the incident, and approximately 40 minutes after, Latvia issued an air threat alert in the Kraslava and Ludza areas.

Russia previously denied claims that the drones originated from Russian territory.
